Description and Teaching Materials

The most accessible data people have are their own personal experiences. But those experiences are what we might call “anecdotal data” whereby someone’s story, while significant to them or even possibly to the population at large, there is not really a way of measuring the event.

In this exercise we will look at data, and draw conclusions from what the numbers say. Students will explore and learn how the Dissimilarity Index is constructed, and see how segregated communities look compared to non-segregated communities.
